A new Jewish deli and restaurant is opening soon on Irving Street near 7th in San Francisco’s Inner Sunset. This area combines a strong residential community with an active commercial corridor, steady foot traffic, and direct access to the Muni N Judah line. The concept will feature a classic deli menu during the week and full-service dining on weekends. The owners and consulting team have extensive backgrounds in food, food service, manufacturing, and hospitality, with several popular food products already sold nationwide.
We are hiring a general manager to lead the restaurant’s pre-opening, launch, and long-term operations. This includes overseeing the final build-out, hiring and training staff, implementing systems, and ensuring financial and service excellence.
Pre-opening responsibilities
- Work with ownership and consulting team on final build-out and operational setup
- Recruit, hire, and train all front and back of house staff
- Develop service standards, training manuals, and SOPs
- Implement and oversee Toast POS setup, testing, and staff onboarding
- Build staff schedules and systems to ensure a smooth opening
Post-opening responsibilities
- Oversee daily operations, coordinating FOH and BOH
- Deliver excellent guest service and create a welcoming neighborhood atmosphere
- Lead staff training, scheduling, performance reviews, and retention strategies
- Ensure compliance with San Francisco labor laws and California HR regulations
- Manage payroll processing, labor approvals, and HR documentation
- Track inventory, control costs, and forecast supply needs
- Review weekly and period P&L reports with ownership and take corrective action when needed
- Maintain food safety and sanitation standards
- Collaborate on menu rollouts, pricing, and weekend full-service transitions
- Represent the restaurant publicly and build strong community relationships
Qualifications
- 5+ years of hospitality experience, with at least 3 years in restaurant management or a GM role
- Experience with new openings strongly preferred
- Proficiency with Toast POS
- Strong leadership, organizational, and financial management skills
- Knowledge of San Francisco labor laws, OSHA, EEOC, and food safety compliance
- Food Safety Manager certification (ServSafe or equivalent)
- Excellent communication skills with ability to manage staff and guest relations
- Willingness to work 50–55 hours per week, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
Compensation
$80,000–$95,000 annually (depending on experience) plus potential performance-based bonuses.
