Role Overview
As the Banquet Manager at Thumper Pond Resort, you are the architect of unforgettable moments. Nestled on 250 acres of Minnesota pine forest, our resort is a premier destination for breathtaking weddings, championship golf outings, and high-level corporate retreats. You will oversee the execution of all catered events, ensuring that every guest experiences the seamless service and "North Woods" hospitality we are known for.
You will lead a dedicated team to manage everything from intimate boardroom lunches to grand outdoor ceremonies at The Pergola and 300+ guest receptions in our Lakes Room.
Key Responsibilities1. Event Execution & Quality Control
- Analyze Banquet Event Orders (BEOs): Thoroughly review and execute all details for weddings, corporate meetings, and social events.
- On-Floor Leadership: Act as the primary point of contact for clients during events, ensuring their vision is brought to life and any issues are resolved instantly.
- Standards of Excellence: Maintain high standards of food presentation, service speed, and room aesthetics (linens, table settings, and AV equipment).
- Coordination: Work closely with the Executive Chef and Sales Team to ensure timing and menu specifications are met perfectly.
2. Team Leadership & Development
- Staffing: Hire, train, and mentor a high-performing team of banquet servers, bartenders, and setup crews.
- Scheduling: Manage labor costs by creating efficient schedules based on event volume and occupancy.
- Pre-Shift Briefings: Conduct "huddles" before every event to communicate the flow, specific guest needs, and safety protocols.
3. Operational & Financial Management
- Inventory Oversight: Manage the inventory of glassware, flatware, linens, and beverage stock.
- Financial Accountability: Ensure accurate billing and processing of payments through the POS system.
- Facility Maintenance: Ensure all 6+ meeting rooms and outdoor venues are clean, organized, and "tour-ready" at all times.
Qualifications
- Experience: 3+ years of experience in Banquet or Food & Beverage management, preferably in a resort or full-service hotel environment.
- Skills: Strong proficiency in POS systems and Microsoft Office. Excellent public speaking and "de-escalation" skills for high-pressure situations.
- Education: Degree in Hospitality Management or a related field is a plus, but equivalent experience is highly valued.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to stand/walk for 10+ hours and lift/move up to 50 lbs (tables, chairs, equipment).
- Flexibility: Must be available to work a varied schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays to accommodate resort events.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $19.00 - $24.00 per hour
Expected hours: 35.0 – 40.0 per week
