JOB TITLE: Nutrition Services Kitchen Assistant

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent
Experience: None
Certificates/Licenses: Valid driver’s license

JOB SKILLS:
Ability to perform basic math and computer skills
Ability to work cooperatively with students, staff, parents, and community
Ability to process breakfast and lunch receipts quickly and accurately
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Assists the kitchen lead in the preparation and serving of food in an efficient, thorough, and timely manner
Assists in maintaining a sanitary and safe environment in the kitchen, storage, and all areas used
Assists the kitchen lead with proper storage, handling, inventory, and organization of food, foodservice supplies, and equipment
Responsible for the proper use and storage of all chemicals used in the kitchen
Assists in efficient, thorough, and timely cleaning of entire kitchen and storage areas, including all equipment, at regularly-scheduled intervals, as directed by the Operations Manager of NutritionServices
Assists in replenishing foods offered during meal service
Assists in storage and disposal of unused food
Assists in the operation of commercial mixers, ovens, stoves, dishwashers, etc.
Assists in the responsibility of collecting and processing breakfast, lunch, and ala carte money and receipts; as well as preparing deposits according to established procedures set by state and federal regulations for the school meals program
Assists in the responsibility for daily record keeping for all meals claimed by the District for reimbursement from state and federal governments
Assists in the responsibility for transferal of the building school meals program information and records to the District Nutrition Services office
Responsible for efficiently using the point-of-sale program and for collecting accurate information from all customers
Responsible for knowing and recognizing a reimbursable meal
Assists with the responsibility of informing the Nutrition Services office in writing weekly regarding student withdrawals or in-District student transfers
Assists with the responsibility of keeping records of lunch charges, notifying parents and staff of all overdue charges, and the collection of all charges
Assists in the training of substitutes in compliance with state and federal regulations
Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively, collaborate with co-workers, and interact with colleagues in a professional manner
Demonstrates a positive attitude toward change
Performs such other tasks as may, from time to time, be assigned

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, and feel; reach with hands and arms; taste and smell; and talk and hear. The employee may also need to stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to extreme cold, extreme heat, and limited work space. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
