Position: Clinical Dietetic Technician
Location: Bay Pines Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC); Bay Pines FL
Grit Government Solutions is currently looking for a Clinical Dietetic Technician for its customer, at Bay Pines Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC).
POSITION AND DUTY REQUIREMENTS
Clinical Dietetic Technician (CDT) shall provide support to the Nutrition and Food Service (NFS) operations. Services include management of patient diet orders, meal tickets, food allergies, patient meal preferences, bedside meal ordering, Room Service Connect (RMS) operations, Admissions/Discharges/Transfers (ADT) monitoring, therapeutic diet compliance, tray accuracy activities, patient satisfaction activities, and processing of information within Computrition and other authorized systems. CDT may work in multiple areas of the Bay Pines VAMC based on operational requirements.
Duties
· Provides professional and courteous customer service via telephone, email, and in-person
· Prints, prepares, and reviews meal tickets for assigned area(s) via Computrition and/or Vista
· Correctly interprets diet activity and patient information to ensure meal trays contain food items adhering to patient requests and preferences, and current therapeutic diet order
· Conducts bedside and in-person ordering as assigned
· Manages patient Room Service Meal orders by phone, entering into the Room Service Connect (RMS) software system within their diet parameters
· Monitors Admissions, Discharges, Transfers (ADT), and Diet Changes, adjusting and processing in Computrition and Vista as appropriate
· Retrieves computerized information/printouts to assist with tray and/or nourishment assembly such as standing orders, nourishment labels, tabulated recipe lists, and other simple information to assist in meal delivery
· Collects information from patients and/or caretakers to support Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDNs) including eating habits, allergies, diet, preferences, and updates Computrition
· Works collaboratively with interdisciplinary team members, including RDNs, Nursing staff, and Nutrition and Food Service (NFS) staff
· Checks trays for accuracy during meal service as assigned
· Conducts in-person patient satisfaction surveys
· Completes test trays including testing temperature and taste
· Complies with the FDA Food Code 2022, Supplement, VHA Directive 1439, and all local policies and procedures
Qualifications
Must have experience performing duties in food service in a hospital environment; tray delivery and knowledge of tray assembly area procedures; using dietetics software programs; familiarity with regular and modified diets; assisting with food selections; following verbal and written instructions; and using computer equipment, phone system, and printers. This position requires effective communication skills both verbally and in writing and good customer service.
Required Knowledge
Knowledge of therapeutic diets, such as, but not limited to: International Dysphagia Diet Standardization Initiative (IDDSI), Renal, Diabetic, Cardiac, and Medical Nutrition Therapy for health and a wide variety of disease states.
Computer Skills
Experience with performing basic computer functions, including but not limited to word processing, email communication, data entry, internet navigation, and use of common office software applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
Credentials
Candidates shall possess either:
(a) Dietetic Technician Registered (DTR) credentials; or
(b) A bachelor's degree or at least 24 semester hours in a nutrition-related field.
DTR credentials are preferred but not required.
Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
