The Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving equipment and facility systems to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable plant operations. This role plays a critical part in minimizing downtime, supporting production throughput, and driving continuous improvement initiatives across the facility.
This position requires a hands-on, mechanically inclined individual who thrives in a fast-paced production environment and takes ownership of equipment performance and reliability.
Key ResponsibilitiesEquipment Maintenance & Repair
- Perform routine preventive maintenance (PM) on processing and packaging equipment
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems
- Respond to equipment breakdowns quickly to minimize production downtime
- Maintain grinders, mixers, packaging machines, conveyors, and related systems
Troubleshooting & Root Cause Analysis
- Diagnose equipment failures and identify root causes—not just symptoms
- Implement long-term corrective actions to prevent repeat issues
- Partner with production and QA teams to resolve recurring problems
Facility Maintenance
- Maintain building systems including HVAC, refrigeration support, water systems, and utilities
- Support general facility upkeep and repairs as needed
Preventive & Predictive Maintenance
- Execute and improve the preventive maintenance program
- Track maintenance activities and equipment history
- Identify opportunities to move from reactive to proactive maintenance
Continuous Improvement
- Identify and implement improvements to increase equipment reliability and efficiency
- Support capital projects, equipment installs, and facility expansions
- Collaborate with operations leadership on process improvements
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all food safety (USDA/FDA) and workplace safety requirements
- Ensure all maintenance work meets regulatory and company standards
- Maintain clean and organized work areas
Qualifications Required
- 3+ years of maintenance experience in manufacturing or food processing
- Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on troubleshooting experience
- Basic knowledge of electrical systems (motors, sensors, wiring)
- Experience with pneumatic and/or hydraulic systems
- Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals and schematics
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including early mornings or weekends if needed
Preferred
- Experience in meat or food processing environments
- Familiarity with packaging equipment (thermoformers, vacuum sealers, etc.)
- PLC troubleshooting experience (basic level acceptable)
- Welding and fabrication skills
